The fruits of Salavatski are similar in size to Wonderful pomegranates, with an orange-red skin and hard seeds. The fruit has a thick skin and crunchy, juicy seeds that can be eaten fresh in salads or can be made into juice. The tree blooms in late spring and early summer with reddish-orange flowers, and the fruit ripens in late fall.Â
Originally imported from Afghanistan, this cold-hardy variety can be grown as far north as zone 6B with proper winter protection.
